Bread and Bandages
11/21/2003
  Electra

Filled the sink with broken bottles,
the oven with bloodstained cotton nightgowns,
salad bowls with chocolate cigarettes.

Twin, pre-pubic naked; steaming
frogspread on the asbestos ironing board
knees and elbows framing belly scars.

Baby-pictures clothespin-clip the walls.
Mother’s apron window-screens the view—
father’s hands are nailed above the door.

Barefoot in the doppelganger kitchen
wrinkled skin on greasy tiles
flour-tracked linoleum, dishwater tears.

Screw guns or butter--I need bandages and bread!
